10 August 2000

KCCS has just completed the process of purchasing a new office space in the central business district (CBD) of Auckland. These offices are in lower Queen Street.

For over ten years KCCS has been operating mainly from West Auckland where all core routing equipment and servers are located. During year 2000 there has been a substantial growth in the number of data circuits and other services that KCCS needed to provide. This has recently resulted in all available lines from Telecom to the West Auckland property being used and there is an immediate requirement for more circuits.
After investigation it was found that it would be very costly to install new circuits as the only options for this would be via a fibre circuit of some type, at least an E3 34Mbit ATM. Even this circuit would have been filled quite quickly.

Initially the premises of Citinet Cybercafe were looked at as a possible CBD location, however on further investigation these were found to be unsuitable without substantial investment in constructing suitable office and computer room spaces.
KC already has over twenty customer-owned telehoused servers at this location, with a 2meg DDS circuit between Citinet and KCCS.

A suitable office space for sale was found quite close to Citinet on the 7th floor of 109 Queen Street. Arrangements were made to acquire this and new circuits immediately ordered from Telecom.
A 155Mbit ATM circuit is being installed and this will provide frame-relay connections to various KCCS sites and customers as well as deliver IpNet and ADSL services from Telecom.
Ten PRI four and stacked wideband DDS will also be relocated here.
The timetable for KCCS moving is over the months of September and October 2000. Most services will be moved over several weekends and where needed services and data circuits will be duplicated to minimise network downtime.
(further infomation will be made available as move progresses)

Enquires about services provided by KCCS or matters related to this move should be made to David Dix .
