ISP and employing staff

Very soon the expanding small ISP will find there are only 24 hours in a day and seven days in a week. So much to do and so little time to do it and soon the problems start.
If things start to go well then the need for help will become a necessity.

  • Owner/Operator ISP
Some ISPs seem to be happy to reach a level where the owner/operator or family can run the ISP business, they have no desire to continue to expand and perhaps take a step that may mean new larger premises and employing staff plus additional computer, phone line, and link bandwidth resources.
There is nothing wrong with this concept and a few ISPs in New Zealand are actually doing this. By keeping their business at a manageable level to match their manpower and other resources AND balancing the service charges (ie income) they can and often do, concentrate on providing a qaulity service with more personal support from the actual owner/operator of the business. Many users will often be prepared to pay a little more for this type of ISP service and new users to the internet enjoy the personal assistance.

  • ISP employing staff
When an ISP grows to a size where additional manpower is needed then there are several areas where staff can initially share the workload.

  • Where to get staff?

  • Part time vs full time staff

  • How much to pay for staff?

  • Govt Training schemes, Sponsorship and student training

  • Contractors and specialists
